The curtains of light that shimmer in northern
night skies inspire awe in those lucky enough to
see them. This book talks about the scientific
reasons for auroras. It also discusses the myths
and legends people in different cultures used to
explain the mysterious lights. This book is
intended for kids in grades 4 through 6.
When I was writing this book, I talked with a
scientist in Fairbanks, Alaska who's been studying
auroras for many years. He wanted to fax me some
information, and with great embarrassment I
admitted I had no idea how to get my computer to
accept faxes. There I was, showing my ignorance to
this brilliant scientist. To my relief, he laughed
and said, "I can never figure out how those things
work either!" (He ended up typing the information
into an email for me.)
