One of the fun things about writing this book was getting to talk with people from different cultures. I got help from lots of people, including a Dutch friend, a Japanese friend, an ex-Peace Corps volunteer who had lived in Tanzania, a schoolteacher in Finland, and a guy who runs a Russian website. I learned a lot about manners--but I still eat mashed potatoes with my fingers when no one's looking.
