Part of Heinemann's "Wild World" series, this book
talks about where orangutans live and how they
move, eat, and grow. It's aimed at early readers
and has lots of fun orangutan photos.
Boy, orangutans are adorable! When I was
researching this book, I was tempted to run off to
Borneo to be an orangutan "mom" at a sanctuary. But
I decided I'd better stay home and take care of my
cat instead. After I wrote the book, an orangutan
researcher from Harvard kindly agreed to go through
my manuscript to make sure I got all my facts
straight. Getting help from experts is an important
part of nonfiction writing. Fortunately, most of
the experts I've approached have been very willing
to help--they want to make sure kids get good
information, just like I do.
