Even though this book is short, it still took a lot
of research. If one book says peacocks lay 3 to 5
eggs and another says they lay 4 to 7 eggs, which
one are you supposed to believe? I finally asked a
professor at UC Davis to help me sort out the
facts. I also spent some time at the San Francisco
Zoo watching a male peacock strut around, rattling
his feathers in a display of peacock prowess. The
females seemed to be more interested in pecking for
food than admiring him.
This book is part of Lerner's Pull Ahead series for
beginning readers. It has lots of nice photos, and
includes an index and a glossary so kids can start
getting familiar with those tools.
